This covers a wide range of different SLCN and includes good classroom management. We talk about children with language difficulties, listening and attention, vocabulary support, social communication, sensory needs, selective mutism, stammering, autistic spectrum communication, stammering and much, much more!
This covers how to support a pupil with speech sound difficulties in great depth but in a super, practical way with lots of great take-aways. You will be taught to think about how each sound is made so you can best support the pupil. You will be shown ‘tricks of the trade’ on how to elicit certain speech sounds and how to systematically work on these. By the end of the session you will feel confident in how to support the child’s speech sound development easily within the classroom.
This is a vital training course for all schools. Did you know that voice-related illnesses are estimated to cost schools nationally about 15 million pounds a year. Prevention is always better than a cure and if teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to prevent developing chronic voice problems then they should never require speech and language therapy or time off work for voice-related conditions – saving schools and the NHS money.
Your school may use either Language Through Colour or Colourful Semantics to support children to structure their language in a very clear, visual way. We can offer training to enable you to use these strategies easily and apply the principles to any given classroom activity.
Teachers and TAs are often able to support the child with SLCN well within the classroom setting, where there are clear routines and strategies are in place. Things often seen to go wrong over lunchtime when children can easily become overwhelmed. This training is specifically for lunchtime supervisors so that the support children receive is consistent throughout the day.
