Services

We offer support services to pre-schools, mainstream primaries and secondaries and specialist settings.

Our Services can be tailor-made and flexible to suit your school’s needs.  Below are some examples of some of the services we offer.

One-off consultative meeting - to look at your SLCN pupils’ needs with expert advice on which pupils might benefit from being grouped together and the style of support to give.

Bespoke training - for all staff including teachers, TAs and lunchtime supervisors, promoting a holistic approach to encourage SLCN development in the classroom.

Parent sessions - to help families find out how easily they can bring speech and language into everyday situations at home...and see results!

Assessments - for any pupils you are concerned about. Immediate and impactful help without an NHS waiting list, followed by an in-school and at-home therapy plan.

Help with paperwork and applications - our professional reports and evidence can help support SENCos with a wide range of applications and onward referrals e.g. for High Needs Funding or EHCPs

Target setting - we’ll help you set and meet targets, to measure progress and re-set new goals.

Resources - we’ll show you how to use your existing school resources for SLCN interventions and can also suggest new ones too.

Regular therapy sessions - for children with SLCN and/or an EHCP to develop speech and language in line with their learning topics.

Ongoing support - we can be on-hand to help as little or often as you need. Some schools invite us in for a couple of days a year, others we visit weekly.

Ask us - we are always here to help with any SLCN query, at any time. We are always at the end of a phone or email to offer you expert advice.

Assessments

Once parental consent has been gained, our speech4schools therapist can assess your priority children without delay.

The parent is usually invited into pre-school or school and this enables a detailed case history to be taken. The therapist also speaks at length to the class teacher to gain a real insight into their concerns about the child. The therapist will have a wide range of formal and informal assessments to help them to accurately identify the child’s difficulties. The therapist can also observe the child in class or at play to learn more about their specific difficulties and the impact these have.

The assessment results would then be written up in a professional, yet user-friendly way. The findings would be shared with all involved verbally as well as in the form of a written report. The child then begins their therapy or intervention and their progress is reviewed by the therapist at a set time.

Our professional reports  and evidence can help support SENCos to apply for various things such as High Needs Funding or EHCPs.

Target Setting

The therapist is able to set clear, achievable targets for the child and a support programme is provided and demonstrated.

Staff are able to liaise regularly with the therapist to keep them informed of the child’s progress, targets can be updated easily and new resources provided if necessary.

Resources

Resources are recommended or can be provided to the school so members of staff feel fully prepared and have everything needed to offer the child quality therapy without delay.

Regular Therapy Sessions

Some settings choose to have us in more frequently and then we have the ability to provide regular therapy for pupils, not just assessments and reviews.  We always suggest TAs get involved and observe so they feel skilled at supporting any carry-over work in school. Many schools ask us for specific pieces of work, such as therapy blocks for their SLCN children with EHCPs.
