Most schools opt for the therapist to work closely with identified staff and to teach them to carry out the intervention rather than the therapist offering the therapy themselves.
To be effective, therapy usually needs to be carried out on a regular basis and so a therapist who comes into school once a week or fortnightly is not usually the best person to do this. It is also better to train and skill up members of staff so that they feel better equipped to deal with the child’s speech, language and communication needs.
Speech4schools aims to increase the capacity of the staff so that they are able to carry out the therapy required with confidence.
